Our daily interaction with various computers provides us a wealth of real world experience with viruses and virus scanners. In evaluating antivirus software we look at two key criteria.

1. Virus Detection Rate – It is crucial that it detects all real world virus. Not the fabricated test viruses generated by many of the lab tests used in magazine. Just as important are false positives. You don’t want good files being identified and eliminated by your scanner.
2. Performance – What type of system recourses does the scanner use? Slow performance is one of the biggest symptoms of actual virus. It it doesn’t make since to start with a slow computer.
   

We don’t have a favorite virus scanner, we simply use what works. Kaspersky Antivirus is our current champion. We prefer the business version even for home use, mostly due to its more advanced installation options.
