Happy 200th birthday, Charles Darwin! Although his theory of evolution has been around for 150 years now, there are still quite a few people who don't believe it--63 percent, to be exact. According to an August 2006 survey by the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life and the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, 63 percent of Americans say they believe humans and other animals have either always existed in their present form or have evolved over time under the guidance of a supreme being. Either way, let's have a little fun with evolution.
The Open University Web site has a cool Web app that lets you alter a photo of yourself to see what you would look like had you been born at an earlier stage of man's development. Devolve Me lets you try out our different evolutionary stages, from 3.7 million years ago to 500,000 years ago: Simply upload a photo of yourself and move the slider to see what you'd look during the transition. You can then send your monkey-you to friends and family.
It's pretty interesting to see what your very distant ancestors might have looked like. |

Aspiring scientists from the Zurich School of Applied Sciences have built a video simulation that displays the flight path of every commercial flight in the world over a 24-hour period. There isn't much of an application for it, but it sure is cool to look at. |

Though The Simpsons has a history of satirizing tech culture, and even Apple specifically, last night's episode felt like it was making up for a bit of lost time. It's not just iPods and iMacs getting reprefixed and animated: it's Apple Stores, the G4 Cube, past and present fanboys, vintage advertising and even Steve Jobs himself. Even if Groening and co. aren't exactly breaking new ground here (though they seem to reserve some special venom for Mr. Jobs), there are more than a few great lines buried in the sketch.

Veteran spacewalker and Endeavor astronaut Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper lost her grip on the backpack-sized bag on Nov. 18 while cleaning up a mess from a leaking grease gun.
Once the tool bag floated away, some thought they'd seen the end of it. Not quite. A satellite tracker at Spaceweather.com now is monitoring both the space station and the tool bag.
After sunset on Nov. 22, Edward Light, using 10 x 50 binoculars, spotted the bag in space while he scanned the sky from his backyard in Lakewood, N.J., Spaceweather.com reported. On the same night, Keven Fetter of Brockville, Ontario, video-recorded the bag as it passed by the star Eta Pisces in the constellation Pisces.
The satellite tracker predicts the tool bag will make a series of passes over Europe this week. Then, late next week, the tool bag is expected to reappear in the evening skies of North America, and should be visible through binoculars a few minutes ahead of the ISS. |

Problem: PL series Planar LCD monitor has no image and the power LED is flashing green and amber.
Solution: The solution to this is to reset the LCD. There are 2 different model revisions and in order to reset the memory, please follow one of the two solutions below. You will need to check your serial number to find the correct solution for your monitor.
If your monitor has a solid amber light or flashing green power light,
this usually indicates there is no video signal going to it.

Problem: By default Vista will choose the view of your folder by its contents. Although it's mostly acceptable there are a few folders that behavior is very annoying for me. I have a download folder that is constantly resetting to 'Pictures and Music' or the 'Music Detail' view.
Fix: Although I could not find a way to lock one folder down, I did find a way to disable automatic folder template type selection completely. |

Another fun and addictive flash game, although not quite as good as Gravity Pods for me. |
